Biographical Note

PamelaJune B. Banks-Anderson, D.Min. was born in Columbus, Ohio. She earned an Associate in Arts Degree from Catonsville Community College in Catonsville, Maryland, a Bachelor of Science Degree from Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore, Maryland, a Masters of Divinity Degree, Summa Cum Laude from Howard University Divinity School in Washington, DC, and a Doctorate in Ministry from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. After graduating from Chaplain School, Newport, Rhode Island in August, 1985, she was commissioned and, in 1987, began her military career at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia.

During Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, she served as the first African American female staff member in the Chaplain‟s Department at NAS Sigonella, Italy and the European Southern Theatre during the Gulf War. Throughout her career, she has served in the following commands: Air Naval Guard, Selfridge, Michigan; Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, Naval Air Station, Sigonella, Italy; San Diego Fleet Hospital and aboard the USS Denver, San Diego, California; Marine Corps Air Base, Marine Air Group (MAG), Camp LeJeune, North Carolina; III Marine Division, Command Chaplain's Office, Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan; NR NSA Naples, Forest Park, Illinois; Naval Operations Support Center (NOSC) Chicago; and NR CNR Europe ROC, and NOSC Cincinnati, Ohio.

Chaplain Anderson has received numerous military awards during her career. She is also a contributor to numerous church-related publications. Through It All: A Historical Resource of First Facts, the Black Press, and the Dedicated Supporters who Stood Side-by-side with the Columbus Community and Amos Hollingsworth Lynch, Sr., is her fourth publication and she is currently writing "Between the Rock and Hard Places: Our Journey Before and Beyond the 1957 Merger of the United Church of Christ." Chaplain Anderson is the founder of the National Restoration to Military Families (NR2MilFam) Team, an interdisciplinary and ecumenical formed, community-based organization. Currently, she is completing her residency in the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, Louisiana.
