Scope and Contents

The Marc H. Morial Papers span two mayoral terms from 1994 to 2002, and include his tenure as President of the United States Conference of Mayors and materials from his work as a Louisiana State Senator.  The main bulk of the collection reflects and documents Mayor Morial's transition period from 1993 and his involvement in the United States Conference of Mayors from 1994 to 2002. The collection is comprised of correspondence, City of New Orleans transition reports and files, which contain many different types of materials for city departments, organizations, and subjects. Also included in the collection are photographs, campaign materials, state legislation and ephemera.

The papers have been arranged into eight series and four sub-series.  The papers are professional in nature with a small amount of personal and biographical information in the first series.  The series are arranged as follows: Personal Papers, (1977-2002); Campaign Papers, (1996-2001); United States Conference of Mayor's files, (1994-2002) with two sub-series of Correspondence by State, (1996-2002) and Office Files, (1996-2002); Transition Papers (1993-2002); Public and Professional Service, (1996-2002) with two sub-series of Mayoral Tenure, (1994-1996) and the Mayor's Conference on Women files, (1996-2001); Senate Papers, (1992-1994); Film Collection, (1997-2002) and Ephemera & Photographs, (1995-2001)

Related Materials

Marc H. Morial is the son of Ernest "Dutch" Morial and Sybil Haydel Morial, whose papers are held by the Amistad Research Center.  The Amistad Research Center also holds a small collection of papers from Clarence Haydel, the father of Mrs. Sybil Haydel Morial, and the papers of Marc Morial's uncle Walter Morial.
