Historical Note

The Links, Inc. was founded in 1946 as a woman’s volunteer service organization dedicated to the cultural and economic existence of African Americans through civic, educational, and cultural activities. The Southern Area of the Links, Inc. is comprised of seven states and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.

The sixth club of The Links, Inc. was established in North Carolina in 1948. The Wilson-Rocky Mount-Tarboro Club was the first club established in what is now known as the Southern Area. During the 1940s and 1950s, chapters throughout the southern states were founded to support the work of the NAACP and provide service programs focused on African American youth and education.
