Biographical Statement

Adam Fairclough was born November 14, 1952 in London, England. He is a British historian of the United States, specializing in the Civil Rights Movement and Reconstruction. He served as a visiting scholar at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1987. He is now Professor Emeritus of American History at the Leiden University Institute for History in the Netherlands, where he served as Raymond and Beverly Sackler chair from 2005 to 2016.
