Biographical Statement

Bennie Francis Sr. was born in New Orleans in 1922. He was drafted into the military and was a part of the 92nd division who were the Buffalo Soldiers of WWII. He was deployed to Italy and mentions notable highlights of service including being a part of the group that captured Benito Mussolini near Milan and returning a cultural treasure to Genoa. Francis also traveled to Venice, Florence and Rome during his time in the military. After his service he became a part of the National Alliance of Motion Picture Operators and Stagehands and purchased a house with money from the G.I. bill.
