Biographical Statement

Sophronia A. Collins Easley was born to Isaac and Tempie Collins in 1874 in Crystal Springs, Mississippi. She began her studies at Rust College, located in Holly Springs, Mississippi, in 1896, only to withdraw in order to help her parents at home and to support her brother Malachi’s education. She married Willis J. Easley, a government employee, and the couple made their home in Port Jefferson, Long Island, New York. In 1916, she cofounded and served as the first superintendent of the Unity Sunday School in Port Jefferson, Long Island, New York. Though her husband died in 1922, Easley remained in New York until 1937 when she moved to Jackson, Mississippi and where she remained until her death in 1959. Easley dedicated her life to offering intercessory prayers and visiting the sick, of which she kept extensive, accurate records. She also served on evangelical mission teams and visited churches and church camps throughout the United States and Canada.
