Biographical Statement
Dr. Stella Jones established the Stella Jones Gallery in New Orleans, La in July 1996 as a venue for artists of the African Diaspora to exhibit their work. Educational outreach is a focus for the gallery through lectures, panel discussions and exhibitions with the artists. A partnership was established with the Amistad Research Center for the oral history video series “Windows of the Soul, Conversations with the Artists.”

1982-2010The records of the Stella Jones Gallery consist of correspondence, artists’ resumes and curriculum vita, photographs of artists’ work, and ephemera. Some correspondence various artists’ promotional and sales materials, as well as a collection of various artists’ works on CDs. The records also contain correspondence regarding the Josephine Baker Story (1990), a letter from a Hurricane Katrina survivor, and a letter from the New Orleans Arts Council thanking the gallery...
