Biographical Note
Born to Creole parents, Constant Charles, Sr. and Vivian Dejoie, C.C. Dejoie, Jr. was educated at Talladega College. After graduating in 1937, he took over the New Orleans-based Louisiana Weekly, which was established in 1925 by his father. He served as business manager from 1938 until 1969, and president and publisher of the publication after that time. Dejoie Jr. served as a board member of Liberty Bank and Trust, was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the Commander's Club, and was for a time a co-owner of the New Orleans Saints football team. He, along with his family members, owned the Dejoie Taxicab Company.
