Biographical Statement
Reuben Sheares II, United Church of Christ (UCC) pastor and theologian, was born in Charleston, South Carolina in 1933. He received his B.A. from Talladega College in 1955, his B.D. from Colgate-Rochester Divinity School in 1959, his M.P.A. from Roosevelt University in 1972, and his D. Min. from Chicago Theological Seminary in 1973. Sheares served as Executive Director of the Office for Church Life & Leadership from 1973-1988. He also worked as Secretary, Associate Executive Director, pastor, and teacher in various UCC congregations and church organizations. A member of Alpha Phi Alpha, Sheares died in 1992.

The bulk of Sheares' papers include newsletters and publications from various organizations that Sheares was a member or supporter, as well as publications from various United Church of Christ (UCC) congregations.
