Newman, William Kincaid, 1910-1998
Biographical Statement
William Kincaid Newman was a lawyer and long-time church executive who worked with retirement funds and building programs. Born in Brooklyn, Newman was a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Not long after graduating law school in the 1930s, Newman headed the Church Building Department of the Congregational Christian Churches, which became the Congregational Church Building Society of the United Church Board for Homeland Ministries. Later in his career, Newman was asked to serve as the executive of the Pension Boards of the United Church of Christ, and he retired in this capacity. Newman remained interested in human rights causes throughout his life, and he used his investments influence to persuade several companies to integrate their workforces. Newman was the first non-architect elected to the Church Architectural Guild of America and received an honorary doctorate from Rocky Mountain College.
