Biographical Statement

Spiver Gordon was born August 24, 1939 in Plaquemine, Louisiana. He attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he became involved with the NAACP, working on voter registration. Following his work with CORE, he began work as a Director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) in Eutaw, Alabama (Greene County).

This small collection is made up of a single audiocassette of a January 1984 interview with Spiver Gordon, a field secretary for the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) who served in Plaquemine, Baton Rouge, and Monroe, Louisiana. The interviewer is unidentified. 45 minute recording, side 1 only.
