Oversized materials: Calculations, circa 1988-1990
Scope and Contents
The ephemera and oversized materials span 1963-2013 and consist of event invitations, funeral orders of service, news clippings, and professional organization newsletters. Of note is a folder that contains memorial programs and news clippings related to astronaut Ronald McNair's death on the space shuttle Challenger in 1986. Mickens and McNair were colleagues, having both been at M.I.T. in the 1970s, and both part of a small number of black physicists in the United States at the time.
The oversized box includes some of Mickens' handwritten calculations, galley proofs for his first book An Introduction to Nonlinear Oscillations (1981), and various physics posters.
