Scope and Contents
Produced in Birmingham, Alabama, by Edwin G. Jenkins, Newspic : The Complete News Picture Magazine was a short-lived monthly African American publication that ran from roughly 1940 to 1947. Featuring the accomplishments of notable African Americans, such as entertainer Lena Horne, New York politician Adam Clayton Powell, and boxer Joe Louis, the magazine also focused on the African American contributions to the war effort and how the average African American dealt with issues such as education, segregation, and race relations throughout the United States. This series is ordered chronologically with the box of images ordered alphabetically.
