Photographs in this series are comprised largely of candid photographs and negatives documenting Chester and Lesley Himes and their life at their home, Casa Griot. Photographs of Chester Himes with other individuals are also present, including those with Jean Miotte, Michel Fabre, Roslyn and William Targ, Melvin Van Peebles, Viva Hoffman, Joe and Estelle Himes, Claire La Chance, and others. Also present are photographs of family and friends of Chester and Lesley Himes, as well as photographs from a 1992 conference on African Americans and Europe. Individuals depicted in the conference photographs include: Ollie Harrington, Ishmael Reed, Henry Louis Gates, John A. Williams, Barbara Chase-Riboud, Edward Clark, and Herbert Gentry.
