Scope and Contents
Correspondence in the Lesley Himes papers consists of incoming and outgoing letters and printouts of emails. It includes letters between Himes and various individuals, including family and friends, scholars regarding their study of Chester Himes, publishers and filmmakers, and university libraries regarding the acquisition of Chester Himes' personal papers
Correspondents include: Blake Friedman Agency, Jutta Bogenshiitz, Nicole Cahen, Andrea Calderwood, Elizabeth M. Cooke, Donald C. Dickinson, Michel Fabre, Janette Faulkner, Ralph W. Franklin, Donald Gallup, Emilio Garcia Gomez, Don Hale, Ollie Harrington, Joseph Himes, Joseph E. Hunter, Claire Cloutier La Chance, Jean Miotte, Joyce Nasce, Sarah Pirozek, Ishmael Reed, Ricco Ross, Robert E. Skinner, Major A. Smith, Roslyn Targ, William Targ, Cliff Turner, John A. Williams, Ellen Wright, Sarah Yaeger, and others. Of note is a substantial amount of correspondence to and from Roslyn Targ, Chester Himes' literary agent, who continued to negotiate publishing and film options after his death on behalf of Lesley Himes.
