Correspondence and other materials encompass 1.2 linear feet and document Harold Battiste's family, education, military service, musical career, and his many honors and recognitions. The letters are personal and professional in nature. Early correspondence includes letters written by Battiste to his future wife, Alviette, while he was with the 333rd U.S. Army Reserve Band at Camp Polk in DeRidder, Louisiana. Correspondence up through 1979 is comprised exclusively of letters from Battiste to Alviette. Letters to Alviette and his children throuought the series document Battiste's struggles to reconcile his life as a family man and as a musical performer, producer, and record label owner. Related materials include documents related to Battiste's separation and divorce from his first wife, Alviette. Correspondence from 1987 to 2007 includes many letters of congratulations concerning Battiste's many honors and awards. Invitations, programs, and other files also document Battiste's recognition within the greater New Orleans/Louisiana community.
