Scope and Contents
This series reflects Battiste's tenure as a professor in the Jazz Studies Program at the University of New Orleans beginning in 1989. The series, 1.2 linear feet, includes correspondence, grant and administrative records, materials for various courses taught by Battiste, student examinations, and misceallaneous documents. The student examinations provide a view of Battiste's teaching style and interaction with his students. Of note are three editions of Battiste's Silverbook, which was compiled both as a instructional tool and to document post-World War II jazz in New Orleans.
