Scope and Contents
Apart from the audiovisual materials, this series is the largest within the Battiste papers, measuring 15.31 linear feet. Boxes 6-11 contain scores, songwriter contracts, copyright records, and some arrangement sheets for compositions by Battiste or those by other artists produced by A.F.O. Records/At Last Publishing or Battiste's various musical pursuits. Arists represented substantially include: Alvin Batiste, Harold Battiste, Germaine Bazzle, James Black, King Floyd, Barbara George, Tobias Wood Henderson, Charlie Julien, Kenneth Kerr, Alice Kuhns, Melvin Lastie, Tammy/Tami Lynn, Jane McNealy (also listed as Jean McNealy), Ellis Marsalis Jr., Roy E. Montrell, David S. Morgan, Malcolm Rebennack (Dr. John Creaux/Dr. John), Renald Richard, William Sperandei, Morris Sweetwyne, Wilson Turbinton (Willie Tee), Alvin O. Tyler, and John Williams.
Boxes 12-18 contain arrangements by Battiste for his songs and those of other artists, many for his work on The Sonny and Cher Show. These arrangements are undated unless noted. Box 19 contains scores and scene outlines for the film Good Times, which featured Sonny and Cher.
