Dr. Cartwright was involved in various organizations throughout her career. Many of these organizations were involved in African relations, education, arts, and American interracial relations. This series contains 2.9 linear feet of materials such as correspondence, articles of incorporation, by-laws, and ephemera related to the organizations in which Cartwright served or otherwise supported in different capacities. Notable materials include items related to the American Committee on Africa in which she served as an executive committee member. This section also contains materials from the Overseas Press Club including entries in the organization’s annual competitions. These entries include a photograph of the entrant, videotapes of their work, resumes, and references. The videotapes are described in more detail in Series 7. Other organizations represented in this series include the Harlem Institute of Fashion, the American Wind Symphony Orchestra, and the Peace Corps (items predate and postdate her work as a Peace Corp coordinator).

This series also include materials from organizations that were involved in issues in Africa.
