 File — Box: 202, Folder: 7

Series Description

From the Series:

Cartwright’s interest in theater and the performing arts are well documented within the collection. Files within this section encompass publications and ephemera, such as playbills and programs from performances. These performances feature entertainers such as Marian Anderson, Josephine Baker and Paul Robeson. Many of these programs contain annotations written by Cartwright that indicated her thoughts and reviews on the play or performance. These programs are also occasionally paired with newspaper clippings containing reviews of the performances.

Organizations represented include the Metropolitan Opera and The Repertory Theater of the Lincoln Center of the Performing Arts, both located in New York City.

Prominent African-American performers, as well as contemporary issues facing theater and performance (such as racism), are included throughout the files. There are a significant number of newspaper clippings related to Lena Horne and Diahann Carroll.

Notable materials include a program from the film Green Pastures in which Cartwright was an actress.
