Scope and Contents
This series of files contains Sybil Morial’s personal correspondence. The bulk of the correspondence was generated in 1994 in response to son Marc Morial’s election victory in the race for New Orleans mayor. Available as well is earlier correspondence from 1977 to 1989 during Sybil Morial’s time as First Lady of New Orleans. Additionally, also included within the collection is correspondence with condolences following Morial’s displacement after Hurricane Katrina, as well as numerous thank you notes in response to Morial’s work at events around the city. Personages notable within the correspondence include Jessie Covington Dent and Norman C. Francis. This part of the collection also contains invitations to events and organizational boards, certificates and speeches, as well as ephemeral items from programs featuring Morial as a speaker or honoree, in addition to other ventures she had undertaken.
