 File — Box: 10, Folder: 1

Scope and Contents

From the Series:

This series of files encompasses materials related to the committees and organizations Morial participated in as a member, administrator or board member. These materials include correspondence, board of directors’ meeting materials, financial records and ephemera. The majority of these organizations are civic in nature or promote education, which reflects Morial’s focus on education.

The records of the Pacific Institute for Community Organization (PICO) make up the bulk of materials within this part of the collection. Other notable organizations or institutions represented include All Congregations Together (ACT), which collaborated with PICO, and the Friends of Amistad Research Center. Additionally, Xavier University of Louisiana is represented by a small amount of information about the Institute of Black Catholic Studies and the construction of the St. Katharine Drexel Chapel completed in 2012.

Notable materials include correspondence and other materials relating to Morial’s work as president and chair of the I’ve Known Rivers Afro-American Pavilion at the 1984 Louisiana World Exposition while she was First Lady of New Orleans.
