Scope and Contents

From the Series:

Ephemera and oversize material generate the contents for this series and relate to De Veaux’s personal and professional life. The collection of ephemera in this series reflects some of the movements, issues, and conferences in which De Veaux was involved. The files are arranged chronologically, with dates beginning from the 1980s to 2017. Included are flyers, promotional material, speaking engagements, and similar printed items dedicated to the author’s work as a writer, speaker, and activist.

Notably, a curtain saturated with political buttons shows her multimedia art and creativity which is infused with strong social and political messages concerning racism, sexism, homophobia, and other systems of power. This curtain is accompanied by many loose buttons. A flag titled “Against the Bush Agenda” represents an artifact which aligns her within the Black, gay, and other communities fighting against power structures. The oversize material includes large event posters, political posters, and magazines. Some ephemeral materials are fragile, handcrafted art pieces. Other items found within the series vary to include paper, collected newspapers, cloth, tinfoil, and a lock of human hair.
