Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

The collection of Cotton Valley School records occupies four boxes, or 1.2 linear feet of shelf space. Of this, one-quarter is devoted to correspondence, which mostly covers the decade of the 1940s. Included in the non-correspondence is an unpublished "Cotton Valley community survey," a demographic and anthropological study conducted in 1925 by noted sociologist E. Franklin Frazier. Two later studies about the Cotton Valley community, conducted in 1941 and 1947, are also included, but these have no connection with Frazier. A published study, Report of the Survey of the Macon County School System, from 1945, is also included. Financial records (1938-1957) account for approximately one-third of the collection. Other administrative records include architectural drawings, employment applications and appointment contracts, photographs, and collected publications about the school.
