Publications, 1949-1950
Scope and Contents
The records of the AMA's Race Relations Department, occupy nineteen boxes, or 7.6 linear feet of shelf space. The records contain correspondence, minutes, addresses, financial records, and publications. Collected publications are voluminous, representing other similarly oriented organizations of the period. The annual Race Relations Institutes are represented by published summaries and press clippings.
Six boxes are devoted to correspondence. Significant correspondents include directors of the Committee on Church and Race, Galen R. Weaver and Herman H. Long, and Charles S. Johnson, founder of the Department. Published summaries, schedules, addresses, and other documentation of the Race Relations Institutes occupy three boxes. Collected items reflecting other organizations include those of the American Jewish Committee and the American Jewish Congress, regional civil rights groups, unions, and a similarly progressive organization in South Africa.
