People, 1992-1999

 Sub-Series
Identifier: Sub-Series 3

Scope and Contents

The administrative files related to various people with whom The Africa Fund interacted include collected correspondence, resumes, reports, and proposals. The bulk of the materials consist of correspondence from people who were interested in working with The Africa Fund or people who sought financial assistance. Many of these letters included attached resumes and writings. For example, Abdel Rahman A. Al-Bashir wrote to Africa Fund Executive Director Jennifer Davis in March 1995 introducing himself and providing an example of his work, a proposal for establishing a Sudanese NGO in hopes of gaining employment with The Africa Fund with one of their projects. Also of note, the files contain a 1995 letter from Walter Sisulu to Jennifer in which Sisulu asks if the fund could help support his friend, Joachim Mabota, a grocery store owner living in the townships who helped Sisulu's family while he was imprisoned. In addition to correspondence, the materials include scattered resumes, reports, proposals, and news clippings that were sent to the Africa Fund as attachments to letters.
