Phonographic Discs
Scope and Contents
The Africa Fund records consist of moving image and audio recordings. For many items, a detailed index of the contents is available. This has been noted in the item description. The collection includes some documents associated with the audiovisual items. The Africa Fund’s news magazine program South Africa Now, produced by Globalvision is included in the form of VHS videotape, as well as clip reels and television specials. The rest of the video recordings within the collection, primarily consist of documentaries and off-air recordings of relevant news coverage. There are audio recordings on compact cassette (standard audio cassettes). These include recordings of conference lectures, interviews, and promotional material. One-quarter inch open reel audiotapes contain recordings of primarily interviews and indigenous music recorded by George Houser during his visits to Africa. Lectures and radio broadcasts are also included. The collection also contains commercially produced vinyl phonographic records, as well as video recordings on U-matic and Betacam SP. Most of this material is related to the Sun City music video by Artists United Against Apartheid, the A.F.R.I.C.A. music video by Stetsasonic, and the program A Savage War on Peace. Finally, material on 16mm film include documentaries, Generations of Resistance, A Late Continua, and Mozambique.
