The general research material compiled for Africa to be used for reference by staff of The Africa Fund related to economic conditions, United States policy and investment, health and human rights, and conferences and seminars. The files compiled for bibliography contain both published material and bibliographic lists of other relevant reference material. The various conferences held on the African continent focused on economic concerns and trade and contain conference papers, reports, and occasional correspondence. There are files regarding the state of particular concerns in Africa, such as chemical warfare, development, drought, health, landmines, liberation movements, oil, and women.

Specific organizations dealing with African concerns are also covered, consisting of organizations based in the United States, internationally, and within Africa. These include the Afro-Asian People's Solidarity Organization (AASPO), Organizations of African Unity, Southern African Development Coordination Conference (SADCC), the Southern Africa Information Exchange, and the United Nations, as well as various other international organizations. Some files on countries outside of Africa are also included.

Other types of materials contained within the group are newsletters, directories, correspondence, press releases, bulletins, and clippings.
