Scope and Contents
The files complied specifically about the United States document the United States' involvement in Africa during the last half of the twentieth century. It includes correspondence, annual and fiscal reports, study reports and scholarly papers, pamphlets, bulletins, newsletters, programs for various events, and news clippings related to relevant current events. The files include extensive but incomplete runs of the publications Educators Against Racism and Apartheid (1989-1994), AALC Reporter (1970-1985), and South Africa Labor News (1982-1983), and assorted issues of other magazines and newsletters.
Churches, aid organizations, and other organizations in the United States involved in human rights and anti-apartheid work are represented, as well as United Nations and U.S. foreign policy, and the impact of U.S. governmental units such as Congress, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Department of State, and the military. Investment, divestment, and the use of American money in Africa are addressed. African American organizations, leaders and concerns within the United States are also documented, as well as labor and trade unions, primarily the AFL-CIO.
