Transcript: Trial of Commonwealth v. Ramona Johnson, A/K/A Ramona Africa, 1986 January 15
Scope and Contents
The first series consists of court transcripts that originated from the state of Pennsylvania's case against Ramona Africa arising from the MOVE incident of May 13, 1985. She was charged with resisting arrest, criminal conspiracy, simple and aggravated assault, rioting, and reckless endangerment of persons. The documents included are pre-trial hearings to determine if Africa was mentally fit to legally represent herself, the pre-trial selection of jurors, the pre-trial motions to suppress evidence, and her complete trial. Of note are the testimonies of police and fire officials involved in the MOVE confrontation, many of them were cross-examined by Africa who represented herself during the trial.
