Scope and Contents
The Warren Q. Marr II papers occupy 17.72 linear feet of material about his various careers as an accomplished writer, photographer, painter, and cultural promoter. This collection contains audiovisual materials, correspondence, memoranda, minutes, newsletters, news clippings, photographs, and programs related to his posts with the American Missionary Association, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Friends of Amistad, Amistad America, and other organizations and committees.
The collection is arranged into eight groups: personal correspondence and other materials (1934-1985), Warren Marr Management files (1935-1967), House of Marr, Inc. files (1950-1962), American Missionary Association College files (1961-1984), Amistad Research Center files (1968-1990), National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (1967-1981) files, La Amistad files (1976-2000), and other organizational files (1948-1993). Warren's interest in the promoting performing arts, race relations, and African American history are the main themes of this collection.
