From the Series:

Hargett's Chicago ministry primarily focused on addressing the health and child welfare needs of the minority community. He served as senior minister at the Congregational Church of Park Manor, UCC in Chicago, Illinois (1977-1986). Correspondence (1978-1980) regarding the administrative business of the church; his election to the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Chicago Public Library; letters of appreciation from members of the Park Manor congregation (1981-1984); communications (1985-1986) with the Park Manor Committee to Revive Our Church campaign; and a hand-written letter of resignation to the congregation of Park Manor are included. Articles and news clippings (1985-1986) consist of two copies of an Evangelical Health Systems publication highlighting Hargett, as well as a church program in which Hargett was a guest minister.

Installation files (1977) include a program from the service, Hargett's certificate of church membership at Park Manor (1977 September), and articles about the event. Ordination files (1980) include invitations, programs, news clippings, greeting cards, and a citation for Pastoral Service from the Illinois Conference Minister of the UCC. Hargett served on the board of directors for the One Church, One Child organization which promoted African American adoptions with the help of local churches. The One Child, One Church files (1985-1987) contain annual reports, flyers, pamphlets, and a copy of a proposal titled "Implementing a Minority Recruitment Program."
