Juanita V. Williamson collection
Scope and Contents
The Juanita V. Williamson collection consists of one audiocassette interview with linguist and educator Juanita V. Williamson conducted by Clifton H. Johnson of the Amistad Research Center. Williamson was a resident of Memphis, Tennessee, at the time LeMoyne College discontinued its high school and became a junior college, later a four-year college. The interview includes biographical information on Williamson. She discusses other persons who had a long affiliation with the college, such as Robert Church, who attended LeMoyne from first through twelfth grade, then entered Oberlin College (like her relative March Church Terrell). Williamson's remarks focused on her remembrances as a student and a teacher at LeMoyne-Owen College, especially other teachers and administrators.
The collection also includes a 77-page typescript linguistics research paper by Williamson entitled "Black English: An Overview".
