Russell L. Stockard Sr. collection

The Russell L. Stockard Sr. collection focuses on athletics at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and collegiate athletic conferences with strong HBCU memberships. The collection is comprised of three main formats of material: media guides, prospectus, and similar publications for specific athletic teams at individiual schools; game/event programs; and materials related to specific athletic conferences. Conferences represented include the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), the Mid-Eastern Athletic Association (MEAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Schools represented include: Southern University, Southern University-New Orleans, Jackson State University, Mississippi Valley State University, Norfolk State University, Prairie View A&M University, Alabama A&M University, Delaware State University, Morgan State University, Albany State University, Bethune-Cookman College, Kentucky State University, Howard University, Hampton University, Grambling State University, Xavier University of Louisiana, Dillard University, Texas Southern University, North Carolina A&T State University, Arkansas AM & N College/University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Tuskegee Institute/University, Central State University, Fort Valley State College, Virginia State University, Johnson C. Smith University, Tennessee State University, South Carolina State College, Alabama State University, and Alcorn State University. Miscellaneous publications, writings, programs, etc., as well as a small amount of oversized material complete the collection.
