Martinez Kindergarten School records

This collection contains records pertaining to the Martinez Kindergarten School in New Orleans' 7th ward, as well as some materials related to the family of Mildred Martinez, who founded the school in 1934. School records include Orleans Parish School Board requisitions for school supplies (1945-1946) and OPSB reports for lost, sold or returned textbooks (1946, 1949) and delivery forms for books (1945-1947); Louisiana Department of Education lists of library books for the school (1950-1955) and annual reports on textbooks (1944-1946). Prominent among the records are photographs of students and school events, particularly the annual Mardi Gras pageant (circa 1941-2001), Martinez school annual programs (broken run from 1964-1995), and laminated and rolled graduation programs with names of students (1961-1990). The records also contain flyers for school enrollment (2003), certificate of graduation and report cards for students (1953, 1993), graduation programs (1965, 1993, undated), a Consultant's Report to Martinez Nursery and Kindergarten School for Reconsideration of License (1951), hand script notebook with lists of students (1948), and hand script notebook for 1988 graduation program. Additional materials include documents related to library allotment for White and Colored private schools (1949-1956), a VHS videocassette of 1995 annual program, newspaper clippings (1991-2002), and books presumably used at the school (1938-1948)

Martinez Family materials include certificates and awards to family members, 1970, 1991, 2003, family photographs and unidentified photographs (originals and photocopies), 1932-2000s, a letter from Numa Martinez to "Mr. Randy" of Big Pay Off (9 November 1953), obituary and funeral program for Mildred Bernard Martinez and Maurice Martinez, Sr. (1991, 1998), a school scrapbook made by Josepha M. Martinez at Valena C. Jones school, (1949), and 1961 yearbook for Booker T. Washington High School. Additional materials include the organization structure for an LEA Work Conference with hand script notes on versos (undated).
