Scope and Contents

The J. Taylor and Kathryn T. Apart from personal papers of the Stanleys, the collection also contains numerous documents generated by churches, conferences, and instrumentalities of the United Church of Christ and its predecessors.

The collection contains correspondence, photographs, reports, financial documents, collected publications and ephemera, administrative records, speeches and sermons, writings, programs, ledgers, and membership lists. The collection is organized into four series: I. personal papers, II. Church records, III. Schools and Facilities related to the United Church of Christ, and IV. Galangue Mission in Angola. Of note are materials pertaining to the policy of Congregational Christian churches and the United Church of Christ toward the South and African Americans; administrative records related to the establishment and operation of a Congregational missionary project in Angola; and the manuscript of Rev. Stanley's book, A History of Black Congregational Christian Churches in the South, which was published in 1978.
