Jack and Jill of America Inc. was founded in 1938 by a group of upper-class African American mothers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It's purpose was to provide social, cultural, and educational opportunities for children between the ages of 2 and 19. By 1946, ten chapters had been formed and more continued to develop over the years, including one in New Orleans.
