James Herman Robinson Institute collection
Content Description
The James Herman Robinson Institute was created by local New Orleans alumni of Operation Crossroads Africa (OCA) to promote scholarship in the African Diaspora through use of the archives and manuscript collections of the OCA and James H. Robinson held at the Amistad Research Center. The institute has sponsored two internship students to process and preserve portions of the OCA records, sponsored a speaker series “The Work and Legacy of Dr. James H. Robinson: Operation Crossroads Africa,” Feb 6, 2003, and the Gertrude Robinson Grace award.
The collection consists of one folder of materials documenting the partnership of the Institute and the Amistad Research Center, internship project of 2003, and founding of the Institute. The collection includes correspondence, a president’s report 2004, photographs and reports for students participating in the 2003 internship at the Center. Of note is a compact disc copy of Dr. James H. Robinson’s speech to Hamilton Goodwill Africa Group, 1961 Canada.
