The papers of this Baton Rouge civil rights leader and entrepreneur, Emmitt Douglas, largely concern one of his businesses, Douglas Beauty Supply, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Materials include photographs of Douglas' Annual Hair Show. Several scrapbooks are in the collection, which include clippings and sympathy cards after Douglas' death, Kordice Douglas' college years and European travels, and newspaper clippings of Emmitt Douglas' political career, including his 1968 run for Louisiana State Senate. Other items include Douglas' military records, correspondence, press clippings, speeches, NAACP convention programs, and miscellaneous documents reflecting African American beauty culture.
