H. T. Lockard papers
Content Description
The papers of H.T. Lockard document his service as a lawyer and judge, President of the Memphis Branch of the NAACP, and as administrative assistant to Tennessee Governor Buford Ellington. The collection consists of a single letter, photographs of Lockard in his capacities with the NAACP and Tennessee Governor's office, biographical information, proclamations and certificates, a program and newsletter from the Judicial Council of the National Bar Association, and news clippings. The majority of the clippings focus on the trial of Frances Ballard, a teacher in Memphis at the Georgian Hills Early Childcare Center, who was charged with sexual abuse involving preschoolers. Judge Lockard presided over the trial.
