Content Description

The papers of Key West, Florida, folk artist Jack Baron mainly date from the 1980s-1990s consists of correspondence; news clippings; invitations to art exhibitions; and gallery inventories, invitations, and exhibition publicity ephemera. Baron’s bachelor’s degree from New York University (1950), as well as a scrapbook kept by the artist and a guest book from Baron's exhibition entitled "The Birthday Party", and an untitled article on Baron's Key West studio are also included. Author Katherine Proby gave news clippings, photographs, and slides to Baron, which she had compiled for a biography of the artist. A project she was working on prior to her death.

The correspondence dates from 1980-1996 and is comprised of short letters and thank you cards from individuals who purchased or admired Baron’s artwork. Documentation consisting of price lists are available contained in a notebook kept by Baron in which he recorded his sales from 1979 to 2005. Also present are photographs, color separations, negatives, and over 1000 slides depicting Baron and his work. Although undated, they are mainly from the 1980s and 1990s.
