Scope and Content Note

The addendum to the Robert and Lillian Dunn Perry papers reflects the B-Sharp Music Club, where Robert Perry served as a member and long-term president. Correspondence largely consists of matters pertaining to the B-Sharp Music Club and in particular their scholarship committee. Other items of correspondence include a photocopy of an eleven-page letter to James Redmond concerning personnel matters and reassignments of principals in 1958, including Charles Rousseve.

Notable correspondents include Albert W. Dent, Charles Rousseve, John Wesley Work, and Moses Hogan. Photographs include a 1953 image of Clarence Camerson White with his mother and a 1956 panoramic group photograph of the New York Club of the Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs. Newspaper clippings date from 1938 and include articles about African American Musicians. Materials also include programs for the 1982 Tourgee DeBose piano competition, among many other classical music-related programs; a list of B-Sharp Music Club contest judges from 1951 to 1966; a program for the 1933 Junior Prize Contest at Johnson C. Smith University; collected materials from the National Association of Negro Musicians, Inc.; and collected newsletters and other items from the Amistad Research Center. Other items of interest include an undated advertisement from Mme. C. J. Walker

The collection also includes a small amount of memorabilia, such as ribbons and awards, as well as certificates. A family tree for the Henderson Dunn branch of the family is included along with family writings. Of note are materials related to American concert bass-baritone singer and actor William Warfield including a program for his funeral service. Also present is a 1931 edition of The Crimson Tide, the yearbook of Straight College in New Orleans.

Also, of interest are five undated pieces of sheet music composed by Lillian D. Perry; titles include: 'Seventy-five Years with B Sharp," "Eighty Years with B Sharp," "Friends," "Fair Woodson," and "Service with Love."
