Scope and Contents

This scrapbooks highlights the Patterson and Tureaud families' visit to New Orleans for the dedication of the A.P. Tureaud Civil Rights Memorial Park on January 20, 1997. The park is located at the corner of St. Bernard and A.P. Tureaud Avenues in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Master of Ceremonies and Chair of the A.P. Tureaud Civil Rights Memorial Committee was Justice Revius O. Ortique, Jr. Others involved in the dedication include Mayor Marc H. Morial; Councilmember Roy E. Gapion, Jr.; and dramatic mezzo singer Debra Brown. The album contains ephemeral materials, such as a program, news clippings, invitations, and color 4 x 6 inch photographs of the dedication. The album also contains photographs of the families' visit to the Amistad Research Center on January 18th. Also included is a listing of Tureaud family members and their relationship to A.P. Tureaud.
