Scope and Contents

The records of Louisiana Coalition Against Racism and Nazism contains 38.49 linear feet of correspondence, organizational records, writings, and ephemera and publicity materials related to their efforts to inform the public about the racist and anti-Semitic views of  American white supremacist and white nationalist politician David Duke.

Large portions of the collection are materials collected by LCARN as research used in their campaigns against David Duke. This includes materials related to Duke such as personal records, items written by Duke, interviews, as well as his campaign materials and campaign finances. Other collected materials include writings such as political analyses, speeches, and presentations. These records also contain information on voting demographics and campaign materials from other politicians such as Duke’s competitors and his imitators.

Additionally, the collection also contains newsletters, ephemera, and programs from anti-racist organizations and Duke-affiliated and non-affiliated white nationalist organizations. An extensive collection of newspaper clippings within the collection provide context to the contemporary political climate in the United States from 1989 to 1992 and also formed part of LCARN’s collected research. The audiovisual materials contain commercials paid for by LCARN and news segments about David Duke. Items of note include a copy of Jabberwocky—the award-winning anti-David Duke commercial produced for LCARN.
