Scope and Contents

The Ernest "Dutch" Morial papers document Morial's career as an activist, lawyer, judge, and mayor of New Orleans. The collection consists of correspondence, photographs, financial documents, newspaper articles, audiovisual materials, and collected items spanning the years 1929 to 1995. The papers have been arranged into the following seven series: Personal papers, campaigns and legislation, City of New Orleans mayoral tenure, community service and memberships, legal activities and judicial tenure, collected items, and multimedia. This collection reflects Morial's active civic life at the local, state, and national levels. Further description of the series appears below.

Other materials pertaining to Morial's mayoral tenure are located in the City Archives at the main branch of the New Orleans Public Library.
