Jim Singleton was native of Hazelhurst, Mississippi, and received his B.A. degree in mathematics from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was a math educator in New Orleans for 12 years before serving New Orleans mayoral administrations in various capacities. In 1978, he won a seat on the New Orleans City Council and served until 2002.
His papers are correspondence, reports and documents generated during his tenure on the New Orleans City Council.
