Content Description
Dr. Mack Justin Spears was born in Wilson, Louisiana, in 1912. He was educated at Dillard University and Xavier University in New Orleans, as well as Harvard University. He served in public education in New Orleans as an elementary school teacher from 1933 to 1949, an elementary school principal from 1949 to 1954, and as principal of John McDonogh No. 35 High School from 1954 to 1967. He was president of the Orleans Parish School Board and served with the National School Boards Association and the Louisiana School Association.
His papers contain school records (1920s-1960s), writings (1949-1960s), reports (1940-1960s), as well as diplomas, honors, and awards.
