Timothy Harvey papers

Timothy Harvey was a management consultant who worked for better job training for African Americans and Puerto Ricans in an effort to promote affirmative action in national corporations. He was the director of Timothy Harvey and Associates, Inc. Although he was born in Sylvester, Georgia, he spent most of his life in New Jersey, except for a tour of duty with the U.S.  Navy from which he was discharged in 1946. He attended Oregon State and later graduated from  Michigan State in which he  enrolled after his discharge from the service. A consultant for Bell Laboratories, he conducted approximately 550 Urban Minorities and Awareness Workshops that involved 3500 employees. He was active in Urban League, becoming the director of Total Employment and Manpower (TEAM), and he was instrumental in creating successful minority retention programs for the U.S. Postal Services and Western Electric. Except for a few items pretaining to his family, the papers pertain to his career as a management consultant. Included are correspondence, financial records, lists, collected items on affirmative action and African American history, collected resumes, mailing lists, photographs, plaques, and other honrors and awards.
