Content Description
Items pertain to the pastoral career of the United Church of Christ minister and to his community activities, notably in Washington, DC. Of particular interest are items relating to his work on the Bicentennial Committee, his support of the move to have Council House declared a historic site, and his authorship of articles, a thesis, and a book about African Americans in the Congregational Church. Council House is the headquarters of the National Council of Negro Women purchased by founder-president of the organization, Mary McLeod Bethune. Names noted in the collection include Walter Fauntroy, Nicholas Hood, and Dorothy Height.
Includes a program for the 25th anniversary celebration in 1993 of the Pastorate of A. Knighton Stanley, among other collected materials to commemorate the occasion.These materials include a photograph album and several notes of congratulations upon his retirement, as well as a commemorative booklet produced on this occasion. Other materials include funeral programs, including one for the memorial services of Dorothy Irene Height.
