Fred P. Ensminger letter
Scope and Contents
This single-item collection consists of a letter dated 24 May 1937 from Fred P. Ensminger, Associate Superintendent and Superintendent of Conferences of The Church Extension Boards of the Congregational and Christian Churches, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Rev. and Mrs. C.C. Haun of Crossville, Tennessee. Ensminger writes "I understand through Brother Nighingale that you are willing to take care of Rev. Richard A. Ewing, the pastor of Howard Congregational Church of Nashville, when he comes to present the cause of the Negro at the Grandview Conference. " Ensminger states that not only does Ewing pastor the church, but that he is also a teacher in the Nashville public schools and that his church "has in it some professional people and Fisk graduates." The letter mostly concerns the logistics of Ewing's transportation and housing while in Crossville. It also mentions that Eugene Rainey "is to take up the work at Evarts about June 15." Rainey served as the pastor of the Evarts Congregational United Methodist Church in Evarts, Kentucky, from roughly 1937 to 1945.
